Summary

A lone astronaut is on a desperate, last-chance mission to save the earth from disaster in this incredible new science-based thriller from the #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Martian

Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission--and if he fails, humanity and the earth itself will perish。

Except that right now, he doesn't know that。 He can't even remember his own name。 Let alone the nature of his assignment, or how to complete it。

All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time。 And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but a computer and two corpses for company。

His crewmates dead, his memories fuzzily returning, he realizes that an impossible task now confronts him。 Alone on this tiny ship that's been cobbled together by every government and space agency on the planet and hurled into the depths of space, it's up to him to conquer an extinction-level threat to our species。

And thanks to an unexpected ally, he just might have a chance。

Part scientific mystery, part dazzling interstellar journey, The Hail Mary is a tale of discovery, speculation, and survival to rival The Martian--while taking us to places it never dreamed of going。

Yes, there’s a ton of science that is way beyond my knowledge, but oddly enough after hours of listening to it, I thought I was understanding it。 I adored Grace and Rocky and was surprised at the ending。 Andy Weir’s storytelling is stellar, and Ray Porter’s narration is superb。

Fantastic bookI loved the Martian and Project Hail Mary was really great as well。 I laughed, I cried, and I had some faith restored in humanity as well。 Also, I believe in aliens even more now!

I have to say I really enjoy Andy Weir's brand of science fiction。 This story pulls you in right from the beginning and keeps you interested the whole time。 It's also worth noting that this book had a lot less language than The Martian - while I really enjoyed The Martian, the language was a bit much。 This time Weir kept it PG-13, and I appreciated it。 The only negative thing I have to say about this one is that I sometimes got a little lost in the science, but the pace was moving fast enough th I have to say I really enjoy Andy Weir's brand of science fiction。 This story pulls you in right from the beginning and keeps you interested the whole time。 It's also worth noting that this book had a lot less language than The Martian - while I really enjoyed The Martian, the language was a bit much。 This time Weir kept it PG-13, and I appreciated it。 The only negative thing I have to say about this one is that I sometimes got a little lost in the science, but the pace was moving fast enough that I never felt bogged down。 I absolutely love his sense of humor。 At times I was laughing out loud。 The ending was interesting and unexpected but satisfying in its own way。 Definitely recommend! 。。。more

Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir (Ballantine Books 2021) (Fiction - Thriller) (3551)。 I really enjoyed The Martian, which was author Andy Weir's last novel。 I was curious as to whether Mr。 Weir could sustain the momentum he created with such a well-crafted and immensely popular offering。 The answer is that his new book Project Hail Mary turns out to be a great story which is destined for the best-seller lists as well。 Ryland Grace awakens one day to find himself on a spaceship speeding away from e Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir (Ballantine Books 2021) (Fiction - Thriller) (3551)。 I really enjoyed The Martian, which was author Andy Weir's last novel。 I was curious as to whether Mr。 Weir could sustain the momentum he created with such a well-crafted and immensely popular offering。 The answer is that his new book Project Hail Mary turns out to be a great story which is destined for the best-seller lists as well。 Ryland Grace awakens one day to find himself on a spaceship speeding away from earth。 But why? He's not even an astronaut - he's a junior high school science teacher, for goodness sake。 How he came to be on a spaceship, the nature of his mission, and an unexpected ally are the plot points that drive this excellent bit of fiction。 This makes two straight books where Andy Weir's fertile imagination has created plotlines which have never been plumbed by his fellow authors。 Now I'm ready for his next one。 My rating: 7/10, finished 7/13/21 (3551)。 。。。more

One of my favorite books of all time!

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 What i loved most about The Martian was how realistic the scenario seemed。 This one went too far for me。 I hated the way Rocky has a perfect memory and can do perfect math。 Just out of convenience for the story。 But can‘t say fist-bump just for comedinc effect。 His faulty grammar in general annoyed me the whole way through。

Is it weird that I connected more with an alien spider thingy creature in a fictional book than real people? With trademark Andy Weir humour as the glue, dare I say this book is slightly better than The Martian。 Solid 4/5。

LOVED IT! A page turner from the first sentence。 Great story, characters and writing。 Lots of math and science but explained in a way that anyone can understand。

Exciting, heartwarming first contact buddy thriller。 Underwhelmed by what seemed like rushed ending to otherwise well thought-out plot。

I loved Weir's "The Martian" and was hoping this would be as good。 It is better! I could hardly put it down。 I won't give away any of the surprises, of which there are many。 Just read it。 I loved Weir's "The Martian" and was hoping this would be as good。 It is better! Listened to the audiobook and I absolutely loved it。 Even though ptobably 98% of the scientific stuff went completely over my head, the story itself was mesmerizing and the audio production was wonderful。 Highly recommended。

Might actually be better than The Martian which I also loved

A middle school science teacher gets entangled in a mission to save Planet Earth。 A high school Spanish teacher suffers a neck injury because of the inability to put down this book。 Yes, it was worth it。

WOW this was for sure the best book I've read this year!! I mean, a middle school science teacher sent to space to save all humanity? What's not to love? But really, this was such a good story featuring maybe my favorite character in any book I've EVER read and the balance between present day and flashbacks was extremely well executed。 A must read for all!! What an epic, awesome, genuinely moving book! Instant classic of science fiction。 I loved all the science stuff。 Book is funny too! As good as The Martian。

It was a little nerdy techy and overflowing with science way more than I would have preferred, but the story itself was a good one。 I think it would have flowed better if all the technical and scientific jargon could have been reduced to a level that didn’t make you want to skip over all it 。 It was kind of slow and plodding because of that until you got close to the end and then the story flowed and was driven and kept you thoroughly involved。 I greatly appreciated and enjoyed the female lead o It was a little nerdy techy and overflowing with science way more than I would have preferred, but the story itself was a good one。 I think it would have flowed better if all the technical and scientific jargon could have been reduced to a level that didn’t make you want to skip over all it 。 It was kind of slow and plodding because of that until you got close to the end and then the story flowed and was driven and kept you thoroughly involved。 I greatly appreciated and enjoyed the female lead on Earth and the manner in which that portion of the story was interspersed。 。。。more

Enjoyable read。I noticed the book was at the top of the bestseller list and gave it a shot。 I normally read the free or less expensive offerings。 As much as I read, it can get expensive。 This is the first book I’ve read by Weir and I was not disappointed。 The book was well edited and the story was excellent。 Well worth the $$$ in my opinion。 Happy to have it in my library。

Andy Weir is great at making science exciting to read about。 His characters are like Sherlock Holmes, but they only use science and every situation is life or death。However, he has a tendency to write the same protagonist every time。 Characters are not his strong suit。 Some of the things we learn about Ryland Grace are just because he tells us - he never shows us。 And it feels shallow。 The plot is great! I'm not a scientist so it's not like I can check his work but I really enjoyed the plot。 Jus Andy Weir is great at making science exciting to read about。 His characters are like Sherlock Holmes, but they only use science and every situation is life or death。However, he has a tendency to write the same protagonist every time。 Characters are not his strong suit。 Some of the things we learn about Ryland Grace are just because he tells us - he never shows us。 And it feels shallow。 The plot is great! 5 stars。 I expected nothing but great work from Andy Weir and this D。E。L。I。V。E。R。SWhat really got me was the scientific information。 Andy Weir tends to write sci-fi but it feels so real, with a lot of back-up details, which definitely required tons of research。 I got high with it when the author mentioned math, physics, chemistry, biology and even climate science。 Phew it is a lot to absorb and I'm here for it。Also, the back-and-forth narrative style is kinda amazing? BrilliantThis reminds me a little of the film "Enemy Mine" except for no enemies unless you count the astrophages。。。。The ending was really clever and totally unexpected。Includes some flashbacks which I often find tedious as they upset the flow of t he story but here they actually added to the story - first time I've said that!
